Celebrate Arbor Day with Keep Ohio Beautiful at the
Great Ohio Planting Day at Deer Creek State Park

Park visitors encouraged to help plant a tree

Keep Ohio Beautiful (KOB), Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Davey Resource Group, and State Auto Insurance Company invite individuals and families to volunteer on Friday, April 26, at 9:30 a.m. for the Great Ohio Planting Day at Deer Creek State Park. Deer Creek State Park campground to replace the ash trees removed due to the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB).

Participants should meet in the Deer Creek State Park Campground at the shelter. The campground is located off of Dawson-Yankeetown Road.   Park Office address is 20635 State Park Road 20 Mount Sterling, OH 43143.  Registration will begin at 9:00 a.m. at the shelter house. The morning will begin with a tree-planting demonstration. Volunteers will then be directed to their planting crews.

Planting begins at 9:30 a.m., with lunch to follow at 12:30 p.m. In the afternoon, the ODNR naturalists will share activities and have education animal’s onsite.

Volunteers should dress for the weather, wear boots or sturdy shoes, and bring a shovel and work gloves if possible. Other tools that may be helpful: extra shovels, axes, mattocks, saws, pruners, wire cutters, and trash bags.

Funding and in-kind support for the project was awarded to KOB through the generosity of the State Auto Insurance Company, Davey Resource Group, and ODNR. Lunch will be provided by Deer Creek Lodge & Conference Center.
